Privacy Policy
Effective {{effectiveDate}} · Last updated {{lastUpdated}} · Applies to the Tutur Notes app for iPhone and iPad and to this website.
1. Who this policy is from
Tutur Notes ("the app") is published by {{legalName}} ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app, and what happens on this website.
We have written it in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, write to {{privacyEmail}} and we will explain it.
2. What we collect about you
Nothing. That is the whole answer, but it is worth explaining why we are able to say it.
Tutur Notes is an offline app. It has no backend service, no user accounts and no login. The app contains no analytics framework, no crash reporting service, no advertising SDK and no third-party software development kits that transmit data. There is no network destination under our control that the app can send anything to.
Specifically, we do not collect, receive or have access to:
- The text of your entries, or any photo, voice recording, mood, place or rating attached to them
- The names of your threads or anything else you type in the app
- Your name, email address, phone number or any other contact detail
- Your location, at any level of precision
- Your device identifier, advertising identifier or IP address
- Usage statistics, session lengths, feature engagement or crash reports
3. What the app stores on your device
The app stores everything you create in a database inside its own storage area on your device, which other apps cannot read. The table below lists every category, how it gets there, and what it is used for.
| What | How it gets there | What it is used for |
|---|---|---|
| Entry text, thread names, thread icons | You type them | Displaying your journal; searching it; counting words for the "most-used word" insight |
| Photos | You pick one from your photo library, or take one, when you tap to attach it | Shown in the entry you attached it to |
| Voice recordings (up to 5 minutes each) | You tap record, and the app uses the microphone | Played back in the entry you recorded it in |
| Mood, and day ratings out of ten | You choose them | Shown on the entry; summarised in Insights |
| Place name and coordinates | You tap "Place", and the app asks the system for your location once, then suggests a name you can edit or replace | Shown on the entry; grouped in the "Where you write" insight |
| Reactions on entries | You add them | Shown on the entry |
| Your first name, if you enter one | You type it in Settings | Used inside the app to address you. Optional; leave it blank and nothing breaks |
| Preferences — theme, appearance, text size, lock on or off, reminder times, sync on or off | You set them in Settings | Making the app behave the way you asked |
None of this is transmitted to us. It is written to your device, and — if and only if you turn on iCloud sync — mirrored to your own private iCloud database, described in section 5.
4. Device permissions
iOS asks your permission before an app may use certain features. Tutur Notes requests these only at the moment you tap something that needs them, never at launch, and the app remains usable if you decline every one of them.
Photo library
Requested when you attach a photo. The app receives only the image you pick. It does not read, browse or index the rest of your library.
Microphone
Requested when you start a voice entry. Recording happens only while the recorder is visibly running, and the audio is saved into the entry on your device. There is no transcription, and the audio is not sent anywhere.
Location
Requested when you tap "Place". The app asks the system for your position once, converts it into a place name you would recognise, and offers it to you. You can rename it or type any name you like before saving. Nothing is stored unless you save the entry, and the app never requests your location in the background or while it is closed.
Notifications
Requested when you set up a reminder. See section 6.
Face ID / Touch ID
Requested if you switch on the app lock. Biometric matching is performed entirely by iOS. The app is told only whether the check succeeded — it never receives, and could not store, your face or fingerprint data.
5. iCloud sync
Sync is a switch in Settings. What it does, and does not do, is worth being exact about.
When it is on, your journal is mirrored to the private database of your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it appears on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. A private CloudKit database belongs to you. We, as the app's developer, have no access to it: Apple's platform does not give developers any means of reading a user's private database, and we operate no service that receives its contents.
As part of this, Apple may deliver silent background notifications to your device to let it know that new data is ready to sync. These signal only that a change occurred; they do not carry your journal content to us, and we neither send nor receive them.
Your data in iCloud is handled under Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud terms with Apple, including whatever encryption settings you have chosen in your Apple Account.
When it is off, the journal stays on the one device. Nothing is mirrored anywhere. It will still be included in an encrypted backup of your iPhone or iPad if you make one, because that is how iOS backups work.
You may turn the switch on or off at any time. Turning it off stops further syncing; it does not by itself erase what has already been placed in your iCloud — see Retention and deletion for how to remove that.
6. Reminders and notifications
If you ask a thread to remind you, the reminder is scheduled locally by iOS on your device, at the cadence you picked — daily, every three days, weekly or monthly — and it shows the words you wrote when you set it up. Reminder text is never generated for you and never passes through a server. We send no push notifications of any kind, promotional or otherwise.
You can turn reminders off per thread inside the app, or switch off notifications for Tutur Notes entirely in iOS Settings.
7. Artificial intelligence
The current version of Tutur Notes does not use artificial intelligence to read, analyse, summarise or reply to anything you write. The occasional suggested prompt you see in a thread — such as "what am I avoiding?" — is drawn from a fixed list written by a person and shipped inside the app.
Your entries are never sent to a language model, ours or anyone else's, and are never used to train any model.
Should a future version add an on-device intelligence feature, it would run using Apple's on-device models without your content leaving the device, and we will update this policy and tell you before that ships.
8. Third parties
Tutur Notes shares your data with no third party, because it transmits your data to no one. There are no analytics providers, no advertising networks, no data brokers, no crash reporting services and no third-party SDKs embedded in the app.
The only company other than you involved in handling your content is Apple, and only in these ways:
- iCloud / CloudKit — stores the mirror of your journal in your own private database, if you turned sync on. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- The App Store — distributes the app and handles any download or purchase. Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymised sales and download statistics through App Store Connect. These are counts and territories; they contain nothing about you personally and nothing about your journal.
We do not sell, rent, licence or otherwise disclose personal information to anyone, because we hold none. Should that ever change, we would obtain your consent first, and we would require any recipient to provide protection for your data equal to that described in this policy and required by Apple's App Store guidelines.
9. Retention and deletion
We retain nothing, for no period, because we receive nothing. Your journal is retained on your own device for as long as you choose to keep it there, and is deleted when you delete it. You are always in control of this; you do not need to ask us, and there is no request for us to process.
Deleting individual content
Delete an entry or a whole thread inside the app. If iCloud sync is on, the deletion is mirrored to your other devices.
Deleting everything on a device
Delete the app from your device. This removes the app's entire local store — every entry, photo, voice recording and preference — from that device.
Deleting the iCloud copy
If you used iCloud sync and want that copy gone as well, remove the app's data from iCloud in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, and delete the Tutur Notes data there. Deleting the app alone does not necessarily remove data already stored in your iCloud account.
Accounts
Tutur Notes has no account creation, so there is no account to delete. Apple requires apps that let you create an account to also let you delete it; that requirement does not apply here because the app never creates one.
.txt or .json
file first.
10. Withdrawing your consent
Every permission the app uses can be withdrawn at any time, without contacting us, and the app keeps working without them:
- Location, photos, microphone, notifications — iOS Settings → Tutur Notes, and turn off whichever you want to revoke.
- iCloud sync — the switch in the app's own Settings.
- App lock — the switch in the app's own Settings.
- All of it — delete the app.
Revoking a permission does not delete what you already saved using it. Delete that content in the app if you also want it gone.
11. Your rights
Privacy laws in many places — including the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, and the CCPA/CPRA in California — give you rights over personal information a company holds about you: to access it, correct it, delete it, port it elsewhere, restrict or object to its processing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
Tutur Notes is built so that these rights are satisfied directly and immediately by the app itself, rather than by a request to us:
- Access — everything is visible in the app, on your device.
- Rectification — edit or delete any entry at any time.
- Erasure — see section 9.
- Portability — Settings → Export everything, as plain text or machine-readable JSON.
- Objection and restriction — there is no processing by us to object to.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have never done so. We do not engage in profiling or automated decision-making.
If you believe we hold personal information about you and want to exercise a right over it, write to {{privacyEmail}}. We will answer {{responseTime}}. In almost every case the honest answer will be that we hold nothing, and we will say so plainly.
12. Security
Your journal is protected by the security of your own device and account, which is the strongest place it could sit:
- App data is stored inside the app's sandbox, which iOS prevents other apps from reading.
- Your device's own encryption protects that storage when the device is locked, provided you have a passcode set. Set one.
- You can require Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode every time the app opens, and hide entry previews in the thread list.
- iCloud data is protected by Apple's encryption in transit and at rest, and by your Apple Account's own protections.
No system is perfect, and anyone who can unlock your device may be able to reach your journal unless you have turned on the app lock. Nothing we can do at our end substitutes for a device passcode.
13. Children
Tutur Notes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or, for that matter, from anyone. Since the app collects nothing and has no account system, there is no child's information for us to hold or to delete. If you are a parent or guardian with a concern, please write to us.
14. This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no tracking pixels and loads no fonts, scripts or resources from third-party servers. There is no contact form, so nothing is submitted to us from these pages.
Whoever hosts this site may keep standard server logs — typically the requested address, a timestamp, your IP address and browser user agent — for the ordinary purposes of serving traffic and preventing abuse. We do not use those logs to build any profile of you, and we do not combine them with anything else.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how your information is handled — for example, if a future version were to add a feature that transmits data anywhere — we will say so clearly in the app before that version does anything new with your data, and we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
We will never apply a changed policy retroactively to content you wrote under an older one in a way that reduces your protection.
16. Contact us
Questions, privacy requests, or a sentence in here that does not make sense:
A person reads it and answers, usually {{responseTime}}.
